Tazewell County VINELink Coverage
Virginia VINE is a free custody-information and notification service available through the web, app, and phone. The state FAQ says all Virginia local and regional jails participate. That includes the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority, which operates the Tazewell Adult Detention Center. SWVRJA also publishes its own Virginia VINE page, so local participation is directly verified rather than assumed from statewide language.
A person can check current jail custody status without registering. Registration adds alerts for reported events such as release, transfer, escape and return, or death. Some facilities may report more event types. VINE does not decide what a court order means, calculate a sentence, or issue a certified release record. It relays custody data sent by participating agencies.

That local confirmation matters because Tazewell County's jail is part of a regional authority, not a stand-alone sheriff jail.
Virginia Code § 53.1-133.02 permits requested notice before release, discharge, or transfer of certain local prisoners and allows VINE or a similar system to carry the notice. The statute and service design support notification. They do not turn the alert into the jail's full custody log. SWVRJA remains the source for its actual release event.
Search a Tazewell Inmate on VINELink

Names can be shared or entered in different forms, so match all displayed identifiers and the facility. A result tied to SWVRJA Tazewell answers a local-jail question. A result tied to another SWVRJA site can indicate that the person moved while remaining in regional-jail custody.

A matching current result is useful for status. It still does not promise how long that record will remain visible after release.
Note: Match the facility and identifiers before registering because a shared name can lead to alerts for the wrong person.
Tazewell VINELink Release Fields
Read only what the live record actually displays. Official material supports current custody status, the reporting facility, and registration for custody changes. It does not promise a permanent released-person card or a fixed post-release retention period. A sentence date from another system should not be added to VINELink unless the VINELink record itself shows it.

A released result, if still visible, must be copied with its exact wording and the time checked. Official Virginia material does not state how long it remains. Once updates end after release, use the SWVRJA custody-event record for a local historical confirmation.
Roster disappearance should be described just as carefully. SWVRJA calls its online tool “Current Facility Inmates,” and it publishes no post-exit archive or retention promise. If the current roster drops a name and VINELink reports transfer, custody continued. If VINELink reports release, the event is stronger evidence, but the jail record is still needed when the destination or exact disposition matters.
Register Tazewell County Release Alerts
After opening the correct person record, select GET NOTIFIED. Available delivery methods can include phone, email, text, TTY, or the app. Registration details differ by method. The online account process uses a validation code. Automated phone calls use a PIN. These should never be described as the same confirmation step.

The statewide coverage claim applies to local and regional jails. It should not be stretched to federal custody or VADOC's separate victim-notification enrollment.
Save enough information to recognize a later change. A screen capture with no facility or event wording can create confusion. Keep the matched name, facility, event, time, and registration method. When an automated call repeats, the PIN stops further calls for that event after it is entered. It does not certify the person's identity or validate a separate email account.
Note: The phone PIN acknowledges a call, while email and text registration use a separate account validation code.
Tazewell Jail VINE Versus VADOC
This distinction is vital in Tazewell County because the county includes both an SWVRJA jail and Pocahontas State Correctional Center. Jail VINE covers local and regional jail custody. If SWVRJA transfers a person into VADOC authority, the local registration does not automatically become VADOC Victim Services or NAAVI enrollment. A registration may need to be made again in the correct system.
Anyone can check or register for ordinary local Jail VINE notices. VADOC's victim-notification program is separately limited to eligible victims. Its current Victim Services number is (800) 560-4292. VADOC may provide advance notice of an anticipated state release, commonly about 30 days ahead, and a changed date can prompt another notice. Actual-release notice says the person is no longer in VADOC custody. It does not necessarily mean probation or parole has ended.
A jail exit can be a transfer. If a Tazewell VINELink event follows disappearance from the SWVRJA roster, confirm whether the destination was the community, another regional jail, VADOC, another jurisdiction, USMS, or ICE.

Confirm a Tazewell VINE Release
A VINE alert is timely evidence of what the jail reported. It is not a permanent archive and may reflect a custody handoff. Save the event label, facility, event time, and any confirmation number. Then call the SWVRJA Tazewell Facility at (276) 582-0650 if community return versus transfer remains unclear.
For a documentary answer, ask SWVRJA for the existing release event. Identify the person and approximate custody period. Request actual release date and time, disposition or reason, legal authority, and receiving custodian or destination where releasable. Court records can explain bond, dismissal, or sentence action, but the court's date is not always the exact jail-door time.
The Tazewell General District Court record can show bond and misdemeanor events. A felony may begin there and continue in Circuit Court, where the final order may appear. Check all relevant case numbers because one favorable order may coexist with another hold. VINE supplies the reported custody event, the court supplies legal context, and SWVRJA supplies the physical release record.

Tazewell VINELink Release Limits
VINELink does not cover federal Bureau of Prisons custody. A sentenced federal person belongs in the BOP locator. A federal pretrial detainee may be held in rented local space under U.S. Marshals Service authority and may not yet appear in BOP. ICE also uses its own locator. None of those systems should be replaced by a Virginia Jail VINE result.
Data can lag, names can match more than one person, and official sources do not promise a fixed post-release display period. Notifications end after release. A no-result therefore does not prove that a person was never confined or is now free from every authority. Check the known custodian, court case, and affirmative release record.
A “Not in BOP Custody” federal result is limited to BOP. It does not rule out a local jail, supervised release, USMS custody, or another system. ICE ODLS can include certain people released from ICE custody during its recent window, but an ICE release may happen on a different date from the earlier SWVRJA handoff. Label each agency's event separately.
The Virginia State Police registry is another separate system. It applies only to people legally required to register. Presence may corroborate a qualifying person's post-custody status, but absence has no general meaning for jail release.

Questions about the event itself belong with SWVRJA or the agency named in the notice. Keeping service support and record correction separate sends each problem to the office that can resolve it.
